Who We Are

    Neon Chapel was born from a simple belief: weddings don't need to be big to be meaningful. In fact, the best ones rarely are.

  • Here's what we kept hearing from couples:

    "I don't want 200 people at my wedding."
    "I don't want to spend a year planning."
    "I just want to show up, say my vows, and actually enjoy the day."

    And yet, the wedding industry kept selling the same script: big venues, long guest lists, endless vendor coordination, stress spirals over napkin colors.

    So we built something different.

    The Altar Electric is Ottawa's first venue designed exclusively for intimate weddings. We're talking 20-50 guests. All-inclusive packages. A space that feels like you—not like a generic ballroom or your aunt's country club.

Meet the Team

We’re Megan and Ilon—partners in life, wedding industry veterans, and proof that timing really is everything.

For years, we worked in the same industry, in the same city, often on the same weekends, crossing paths again and again without ever actually meeting. It wasn’t until we worked for the same wedding venue—Ilon leading marketing and storytelling, Megan heading wedding sales—that our stories finally intersected.

That venue is where our relationship began. It’s also where we became deeply aware of what was missing.

Between us, we bring over a decade of experience in weddings and live events. Ilon has spent years behind the booth as a DJ and live event producer, reading rooms instinctively and shaping the energy of a celebration. Megan has spent over 15 wedding seasons designing, planning, coordinating, and managing venues, guiding couples from first inquiry to last call, and everything in between.

We loved the work. But we didn’t love what we were seeing.

Too often, weddings were constrained by tradition, performance, and rigid expectations. Love—real, joyful, inclusive love—was treated like an afterthought. And when we realized that the space we were in didn’t fully celebrate ours—or many others’—we knew it was time to leave.

So we did.

This venue is what happens when two people who believe fiercely in love, decide to build something better. A space designed with intention, warmth, and care. A place that prioritizes people over rules, meaning over spectacle, and connection over convention.

Our mission is simple:

To make intimate weddings in Ottawa feel easy, elevated, and unmistakably yours. Couples no longer have to choose between celebrating their love and a downpayment on a home.
