So… what's "The County"?

Prince Edward County, or PEC, or just "The County" if you want to sound like a local, is an island on the north shore of Lake Ontario. It's mostly vineyards, farm stands, sandy beaches and small villages with very good restaurants.

It's Ontario's buzziest wine region, known for cool-climate Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and bubbly. It's also a place where nobody is in a hurry, which is exactly how your wedding weekend should feel.

Getting here:

• Toronto: about 2.5 hours

• Ottawa: about 3 hours

• Kingston: about 1 hour

• Montreal: about 4 hours

Close enough for everyone to come. Far enough that it feels like you ran away.

Where's Wellington?

Wellington is a lakeside village on the west side of The County, right on Lake Ontario. It has one main street, a waterfront, and more good food per block than anywhere else in PEC.

It's also the best home base in The County. Wineries, Sandbanks, Bloomfield and Picton are all an easy drive away, and everything in the village itself is walkable.

The beach, a few minutes' walk away.
Wellington Beach sits at the south end of the village, with a boardwalk out to a lighthouse and views across to the Sandbanks dunes. Say "I do" at 3, have your toes in Lake Ontario by 4.

Sandbanks Provincial Park has soft white sand, clear blue water and giant dunes. It's the backdrop for golden-hour photos your friends will screenshot.

• Drake Devonshire: lakefront dining with the patio of your dreams.

• Midtown Brewing and Koenji Whisky Bar: for the "one more drink" portion of the evening.

Wine, minutes away.
Norman Hardie, Closson Chase, Rosehall Run and dozens more are a short drive from the village. Book a tasting the morning after, or before. We're not your mom.

The Wellington Farmers' Market runs May to October, in case your hangover wants a butter tart.

A Wellington wedding, start to finish

Ceremony at The Neon Chapel → toast at our bar → photos on the beach boardwalk → tacos down the street → back to Mrs. Peachum's when the disco ball comes on.
